On May 29, 2013, the care team at the Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce admitted our first patient. At the time, we were co-located within Seasons Retirement Community in Owen Sound. The rooms were bright, filled with light, and offered the many comforts of home. Over the next four years, we would provide our care to over 370 more loved ones from our region in our temporary home. We made our care work in a space designed for retirement living, but now it is time for us to say good-bye to our original home.
On behalf of the volunteer Board, our team of nurses, personal support workers, chaplaincy, volunteers, physicians and allied health professionals – I wish to express our most profound thanks to the residents, staff and management at Seasons. We know that establishing our service in your home was a disruption at times, but you were always so kind and understanding.
Over the past week, we have had over 1,400 people tour our new home. They have been impressed by what we have built, and they can see that we used our time at Seasons to build a better home for Hospice. Chapman House has been purpose built to support loved ones in our care, and their friends and family. It is an exceptional space and we are so proud of the way the community has responded to this project. But we only did as well as we did by learning from our time at Seasons.
Over the last four years, we have had our office at Carney Lane, our space within Seasons and a post office box on 16th Street. Tomorrow we begin care in our new home – one place for all our team to offer the best of their skill and compassion. We have a new home for Hospice – Chapman House. Built by the community, built for the community.
